We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that allow customers continuous access to the innovation they rely on. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain. We are seeking a Data Center Area Manager to serve as a technical resource and leader within Amazon data centers. The position ensures overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels, maintaining electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment and achieving 99.99% uptime while minimizing operating costs. Key Responsibilities Oversee all aspects of the data center's critical physical infrastructure, ensuring high quality work and minimal impact on customers Manage teams of 24x7 engineering technicians in all facets of their career development Engage in improvement projects, driving them from conception to completion, often collaborating with various support teams Coordinate daily with third‑party vendors to ensure adherence to contracted SLAs Effectively manage the operations budget and expenditures Act as the after‑hours on‑call Data Center Facility Manager Respond to incidents, managing investigation, mitigation, and recovery Basic Qualifications 2+ years of people management and team development experience 5+ years of engineering work managing large‑scale services Experience maintaining SLAs through proactive issue detection and reporting Experience operating a mission‑critical team or product High school diploma or equivalent Preferred Qualifications 3+ years in a management position with 5 or more direct reports 5+ years in data centers, focusing on building and equipment operation Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field Knowledge of critical data center systems (feeders, transformers, generators, UPS, ATS, PDU, chillers, pumps, air handling units, CRAC) Experience in a management position with 5 or more direct reports in a data center environment EEO Statement Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.
