Senior Medical Officer – General Practice (Temporary, 24 March 2026 to 16 September 2026) Location: A town on the Atherton Tablelands, approx. 1 hour 20 minutes drive from Cairns. The population is around 7,300 residents. Available Start Dates: 06 April 2026, 23 April 2026, 04 May 2026, 16 June 2026. Pay: AUD 2,600 per month (or $2,600 per day). Responsibilities Work in a brand new ED building, seeing up to 70 patients per day. Collaborate with a team of 9.9 FTE SMO covering obstetrics, anaesthetics, and ED; also work alongside 8 PHOs, 1 specialist physician, 2 interns, and a medical registrar. Support a 56-bed hospital that processes 20,000 ED visits and 200 births annually. Shift patterns include , , and ; during busier periods extra FLO SMO and Fast Track SMO roles may be required. Ensure an SMO on-call within 10 minutes overnight and a second procedural SMO within 30 minutes. Hold responsibility for HDU patients after hours. Requirements Registered with AHPRA.
