About the Role The Staff Specialist role is an essential member of the Alcohol and Drug Service multidisciplinary team, providing clinical leadership and promoting patient safety and quality. The position provides specialist clinical care in inpatient, outpatient and hospital liaison services as well as through the ADS Telehealth Service and telephony lines (the Drug and Alcohol Specialist Advisory Service). The staff specialist will provide assessment, pharmacotherapy, withdrawal management, relapse prevention and referral and liaison with key treatment providers, including GPs. The staff specialist will work in a multidisciplinary team using a range of technologies including face‑to‑face, telephone and videoconferencing. Responsibilities Provide clinical leadership and promote patient safety and quality within the multidisciplinary team. Deliver specialist clinical care across inpatient, outpatient and hospital liaison services. Conduct assessments, manage pharmacotherapy, withdrawal, relapse prevention, and coordinate referrals and liaisons with key treatment providers. Utilise technology such as face‑to‑face, telephone and videoconferencing for care delivery. Qualifications Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine, Royal Australasian College of Physicians or other relevant Australasian Specialist College; or commitment to gaining the Fellowship while working with St Vincent’s. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Addiction Medicine appropriate to the position. Evidence of leadership skills that support innovation, improve quality of services and patient care outcomes. High‑quality, compassionate medical care and recent practice experience in collaborative multidisciplinary environments. Ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination and translation of new knowledge and practices within an academic teaching hospital environment.
