Chief Bush Fire Control Officer- Shire of Denmark About the Opportunity Reporting to the Community Emergency Services Manager, the Chief Bush Fire Control Officer (CBFCO) plays a critical leadership role in supporting and strengthening the Shire's Volunteer Bushfire Brigades. The position is responsible for providing operational leadership, enhancing bushfire preparedness and response, and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of brigade members. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders including DFES, DBCA, and other emergency services strengthens emergency management capability across the Shire. The role requires strong leadership capability, sound incident management experience, and the ability to build effective relationships with volunteers and partner agencies. Key Responsibilities Provide leadership, planning, and operational oversight to Volunteer Bushfire Brigades Act as Incident Controller during bushfire incidents as required Promote and ensure compliance with AIIMS incident management principles Identify training needs and support brigade training programs in collaboration with the CESM Develop and implement SOPs, training standards, and WHS practices Maintain effective communication with brigades, emergency services, and key stakeholders Represent the Shire on local and regional emergency management committees Support the management of emergency service assets and response systems Build brigade capability, resilience, and community engagement Comply with workplace health and safety obligations and Shire policies About You Demonstrated experience in wildfire behaviour and AIIMS Strong leadership, organisational, and administrative skills Experience in volunteer management and community engagement High-level communication and stakeholder engagement skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management systems Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends 'C' Class Driver's Licence Current First Aid Certificate National Police Clearance Fire Fighting Skills and Bushfire Safety Awareness Crew Leader or Advanced Bush Fire Fighting qualifications Level 1 Incident Controller accreditation (Bushfire) Training and Assessing qualification Medium Rigid (MR) Driver's Licence The Benefits Competitive salary package Company Vehicle Additional Superannuation matching up to 5%, supporting long-term financial security Salary sacrificing options, including additional superannuation contributions and novated leases.
