An opportunity is available to join Marrickville Legal Centre’s dynamic team! Marrickville Legal Centre (MLC) relies on the dedication of experienced volunteer solicitors to help us meet legal demand. Volunteer solicitors provide telephone advice on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. Duties Volunteer solicitors are expected to provide comprehensive family law advice at their rostered appointment time. Advice appointments generally are 40-60 minutes’ duration. The roster is provided to volunteer solicitors in advance for a six-month period. As MLC’s services depend on the reliability of volunteers, we are unable to accommodate volunteers who cannot regularly attend. During your rostered appointment time, you will be expected to: Interview the client to obtain further instructions and statistical data; Accurately record further instructions and advice provided by way of typed file note; Identify ancillary legal issues the client may be experiencing; Identify and record any further assistance from which the client would benefit; Follow Risk Management Guide and Professional Indemnity Insurance requirements. Responsibilities To apply for this role, you are required to possess: A current NSW practising certificate; A minimum 6 months’ commitment to prompt and reliable attendance; A minimum 6 months’ experience working in family law; The Ability to provide accurate legal advice in relation to family law matters; Experience working with diverse clients and communities; and A high level of communication skills.
