Suburban Connect is a consortium of global leaders in tunnelling, comprising CPB Contractors, Ghella, and Acciona Construction. Together, we are delivering the southern section of tunnels for Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East – 16km of twin tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley, which will be Victoria’s longest transport tunnel. This project is being delivered on behalf of the Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA). SRL East, spanning from Cheltenham to Box Hill, is now being constructed. Tunnelling is set to commence in 2026, with trains expected to begin running by 2035. The works include 55 cross passages, two tunnel portal structures, two station box excavations, and various associated support tasks. Primary purpose of the position To contribute to Suburban Connect by providing comprehensive knowledge and support on communications, community relations and stakeholder relations. Key Accountabilities Develop and implement the Communications, Stakeholder Relations and Community Relations strategy for the project. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate construction impacts and to effectively respond to feedback and concerns. Identify and manage issues and risks pertaining to the project and escalate issues and risks to the Communications and Engagement Manager. Manage responses to all project related inquiries. Attend stakeholder meetings as required, including Community Reference Groups (CRG/PRG). Liaise with construction team, community and key stakeholders to respond to project 24/7 1800 number queries and effectively manage engagement. Manage respite and reallocation for residents. Liaise with the construction team to ensure community and stakeholders are notified in advance of works in accordance with the Community Relations strategy. Plan and manage contact with external stakeholders in a way that enhances the reputation of Suburban Connect and organisation partners. Develop and communicate community and stakeholder awareness and risk minimisation programs across the Project through inductions and toolbox presentations. Monitor effectiveness of community and stakeholder engagement activities. Input communications and stakeholder activities into Consultation Manager and project reporting cycles. Brief the wider team on precinct updates, program changes and other relevant information What we’re looking for Tertiary Degree (Bachelor level) or certificate or relevant experience (Disciplines relevant to function area, e.g. public relations, journalism, stakeholder management, marketing). 5+ years’ experience in communications & stakeholder management for major infrastructure projects. 3+ years working on the interface with environmental specialists 3+ years working on site liaising with the delivery team independently Working experience with sensitive state client interfaces Experience in leading project or specialist function activities. Relevant experience gained within major organisations - relevant sector, government or consultancy.
