Role The classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges: Range 1 and Range 2. The primary focus is on planning, preparation and teaching programs to achieve specific student outcomes. Classroom teachers engage in critical reflection and inquiry to improve knowledge and skills, effectively engaging students and enhancing learning. As teachers gain experience, their contribution to the school programme beyond the classroom expands. All teachers may be required to undertake additional duties appropriate to their salary range, qualifications, training and experience. Range 2 Responsibilities and Expectations Range 2 teachers play a significant role in improving student performance and educational outcomes. They contribute to policy development and implementation. Key responsibilities include: Use content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet the diverse needs of all students. Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor or coach other teachers in critical reflection of their practice. Provide expert advice about content, processes and strategies that shape individual and school professional learning. Supervise and train student teachers. Assist staff to use student data to inform teaching approaches and achieve targets related to improving student learning outcomes. Range 1 Responsibilities and Expectations Range 1 teachers focus on the development of skills and competencies to become effective classroom practitioners with structured support. They are accountable for the effective delivery of programmes and participate in policy development, project teams, and co‑curriculum activities. Key responsibilities include: Plan and teach student groups in one or more subjects, participating in induction programmes and professional learning. Teach own classes while supporting policy development and project teams. Assist in the implementation of school priorities and mentor new entrants. Responsibilities Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students. Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum areas or programmes within the school. Undertake other classroom teaching‑related and organisational duties as determined by the School Principal. Participate in activities such as parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions. Undertake other non‑teaching supervisory duties. Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the specified curriculum area(s). Qualifications and Selection Criteria SC1 Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including literacy and numeracy instruction, and experience responding to student learning needs. SC2 Experience planning and implementing high‑impact teaching strategies guided by student learning and evaluating the impact on learning growth. SC3 Experience in monitoring and assessing student learning, using data to inform practice and providing feedback to students and parents. SC4 Interpersonal and communication skills with experience establishing collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader community. SC5 Behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values and commitment to reflect on practice and engage in professional learning.
