Cyber Security Engineer Canberra | On-site | Permanent | $170k - $190k Work on a bespoke, defence-grade product that matters. This is a hands‑on technical role for a senior cyber security engineer who is comfortable building, owning and delivering security architecture from the ground up. About this role You will design and implement security architecture across networks, platforms and on‑premises environments for a defence-grade software product. Working closely with engineering teams, you will apply and enforce technical controls aligned to the ISM and Essential Eight, develop security tooling, and drive continuous improvement across the security posture of complex systems. Key responsibilities Design and oversee security architecture across networks, platforms and on‑premises environments Implement technical security controls aligned to the ISM and Essential Eight (E8) Develop and deploy security tooling to address vulnerabilities, automate tasks and strengthen defences Collaborate with engineering teams to implement secure authentication, encryption and access control solutions Skills and experience needed Extensive technical cybersecurity engineering experience in a Defence environment (6+ years) Strong background in Linux systems, network security and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) Hands‑on experience with security automation and monitoring tools (SIEM, Ansible, ACAS, Anchore, SonarQube or similar) Deep understanding of ISM and the Essential Eight framework Australian Citizenship required Benefits Competitive salary package: $170,000 to $190,000 + superannuation Health allowances, extra annual leave and salary sacrificing/packaging options Work directly on a high‑impact, bespoke Defence product Small team environment with genuine technical ownership Clearance This position requires an active NV2 security clearance.
