Our client is seeking a highly capable Tax Lawyer to fill a senior position either as a Senior Associate, Special Counsel or Contractor and join our growing team in a role that has been intentionally designed around flexibility, autonomy and trust. Most of our team works remotely for the majority of the week, with collaboration focused on outcomes rather than rigid office attendance. This role offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated international and domestic tax matters within a highly respected private client practice, while enjoying genuine flexibility, autonomy and a supportive team culture. The role will involve working across a diverse range of challenging and complex tax matters. The key responsibilities include providing detailed legal tax advice on topics such as: Australian tax residency Individuals ceasing or becoming including temporary tax residency status Companies and trusts ceasing or becoming tax residents of Australia Overseas private companies: Acquisition of private equity outside of Australia Acquisition of real estate outside of Australia Navigating tax aspects of operating businesses outside of Australia Restructuring of corporate groups Cross‑border lending including gross up clauses Accessing exemptions for Australian companies for dividends from foreign subsidiaries Accessing CGT exemptions for Australian companies on sales of foreign subsidiaries Management of controlled foreign company provisions Foreign income tax offsets and withholding taxes Retirement structures: foreign superannuation funds; and Australian superannuation fund Australian assets: Advice on how to protect ownership of main family home; From a succession and asset protection point of view, guidance on how to own investment residential properties, commercial properties, lifestyle properties, art and collectibles Advice on land tax for property acquisitions Skills And Experience Minimum 7 years post admission experience in tax matters. Strong organisational and time management skills are a must with the ability to independently deliver on tasks and have the confidence to ask for help where needed. Expertise in Australian taxation legislation and case law with exceptional research, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
