About The Role Reporting to the Network Connections Team Lead, the Senior Engineer is responsible for performing technical assessment, network modelling, and analysis within the network connections team. The role requires 3‑5 years of relevant industry experience in network connections and will involve undertaking technical assessment of generator performance standards, generator commissioning, high voltage transmission system developments and network connections for the business and third‑party customers. Working across the Network business unit, the Senior Engineer will author or review robust technical reports, develop network models and contribute to the development of efficient power systems analysis and connection processes. The role also advocates for changes to the policies and rules governing network connections, working closely with relevant internal and external stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Technical Perform the role of an experienced engineer in generator compliance assessments, performance standard negotiation, and commissioning to provide technical support to other team members. Lead or contribute to investigation of wide area system issues that impact the connections of new and existing generators and develop robust network solutions with support from Network Planning and Network Operations teams. Support review of generator connection processes, policies, and guidelines to achieve improved team performance. Form or review advice and recommendations on various technical enquiries and analysis. Support the development of technical analysis and assessment methodologies. Develop and maintain automation frameworks required for technical assessments. Keep abreast of changes in the National Electricity Market and relevant legislation and its impact on operations of the NSW HV network and the business. Author or review concise and clear reports including reference documentation and provide presentations to stakeholders. Provide management with timely and accurate briefings. Stakeholder Management Ability to work multiple large‑scale projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of follow‑through and communication with stakeholders. Lead negotiations with stakeholders to build long‑lasting relationships with industry groups including AEMO. Skills & Experience Experience in leading the connection of synchronous and asynchronous generator projects. Excellent knowledge of Electrical Engineering principles, NER, GPS and associated technical assessments, generator protection, SCADA, and experience in generation, transmission or similar roles. Experience with PSS/E, PSCAD and power system modelling required. Experience with PowerFactory, SSAT, Mudpack software will be an advantage. Communicate effectively with a range of persons including customers, suppliers, contractors, other technical experts and senior management (written and verbal). Substantial experience in the legislation and technical standards guiding system planning. Comprehensive understanding of risk management – qualitative and quantitative. Excellent knowledge of electrical networks engineering and operations. Well‑developed people and service management skills. Excellent written communications skills for persuasive reports and submissions. Well‑developed analytical, conceptual, and problem‑solving skills. Knowledge of the National Electricity Market and its impact on operations of the NSW HV network and the business. Comprehensive knowledge of the energy industry. Knowledge of quality assurance principles and experience with working in accordance with a Quality Assurance System. Knowledge and understanding of all relevant legislation, policies and procedures. Advanced programming skills in Python language for automation purposes are required. Qualifications Tertiary qualifications at degree level in an appropriate discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
