About the role The Category Specialist plays a key role in shaping and delivering IT procurement strategies, working closely with the Category Manager to drive value and strong commercial outcomes. This role is perfect for someone with strong analytical thinking, commercial curiosity, and the aptitude to navigate complex supplier landscapes. You’ll build trusted relationships with internal stakeholders, streamline procurement processes, and ensure cost‑effective, high‑quality outcomes across all third‑party IT products and services. With a focus on category planning, continuous improvement, and proactive contract risk management, you’ll help uplift procurement capability and influence how the organisation engages with the IT supply market. Key responsibilities Support Category Manager to develop and deliver category plans and track value-added benefits. Engage and understand Business Unit (BU) needs and ensure their requirements are accurately reflected in any procurement engagement. Develop, manage and oversee lower value procurement market engagements, along with completing detailed pre and post analysis. Ensure all IT procurement requests comply with Group Procurement Policy and Processes, security requirements and architectural guidelines. Undertake lessons learned debriefs with stakeholders and ensure any issues or clarifications on Procurement outcomes are addressed in appropriate timeframe. Liaise with operational resources within business unit and key stakeholders to ensure that agreed process efficiencies are implemented operationally. Effectively manage stakeholder relationships, ensuring they are adequately informed of plans and progress, to ensure transparency, stakeholder buy‑in across the business, clarity of purpose & consensus. What you’ll need from day one Degree Qualified – Commerce, Business, Law or Engineering Good understanding of commercial contracts, including a broad knowledge of legal concepts and principles. Sound knowledge of procurement processes, policies and practices. Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of end‑to‑end procurement market engagements. Proven experience in negotiating commercial contracts and supplier performance management.
