About the role The Senior Regulatory and Compliance Advisor plays a critical role in supporting the delivery of a range of initiatives across AGL’s Customer Markets strategy. The advisor provides proactive and thorough regulatory advice and compliance expertise on all facets of the retail energy market, influencing the business to adopt best practice approaches while maintaining a flexible and commercial mindset. The advisor will work closely with a diverse range of stakeholders across the Customer Markets business unit, providing timely, sound and strategic advice on all relevant initiatives to ensure that AGL meets its regulatory compliance requirements. The role requires subject‑matter expertise of all regulatory requirements applicable to the Customer Markets business and serves as a point of contact for complex and novel regulatory matters. This is a 12‑month maximum‑term role based in Melbourne. Responsibilities Provide relevant, strategic and actionable regulatory advice to business units operating in a highly complex regulatory and compliance environment. Research and critically evaluate options when presented with complex regulatory problems. Offer advice and recommendations that are solution‑oriented and maximise business outcomes while supporting strategic objectives. Manage investigations and requests for information from regulatory bodies. Deliver AGL’s external regulatory compliance reporting obligations and associated internal management reporting. Drive the identification, investigation and resolution of compliance incidents and issues. Partner with business stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and monitoring of new regulatory obligations. Provide informal mentoring and coaching for more junior team members, developing bench strength across the Retail Regulation team. Promote an effective compliance culture within Customer Markets through strong stakeholder networks and proactive support. Enhance and deliver an ongoing education program for Customer Markets as a preventative control for compliance, delivering relevant, usable and tailored education sessions to obligation and control owners to uplift understanding of key obligations and controls. Provide technical energy regulation advice during external regulatory audits. Qualifications Experience within a regulatory or compliance role within the retail energy industry. Proven ability to work with ambiguity in a complex environment. Strong legal skills for interpreting regulatory impacts on business processes, systems and outcomes. Detailed understanding of regulations and how they impact AGL’s activities. Commercial and strategic attitude toward ensuring regulatory compliance within the business. Collaboration skills to develop and execute strategy across the business. Ability to present to AGL managers and staff on regulatory compliance/interpretation issues. Experience partnering with the business on delivery of compliance requirements. Use of regulatory knowledge to shape and implement future initiatives.
