About the role As a Legal Counsel within Transurban’s Commercial Resolution & Disputes (CR&D) team, you will provide strategic legal support across disputes, litigation, regulatory investigations, claims prevention, and post‑completion design and construction matters. The role is central to protecting Transurban’s legal and commercial interests through timely and practical advice. You will also contribute to board and stakeholder reporting and manage external legal advisors to ensure high‑quality, purpose‑fit support. Building strong relationships across the business and representing Transurban with external stakeholders is essential to success in this position. Day‑to‑day responsibilities Provide timely, relevant and cost‑effective legal advice across disputes, litigation, regulatory matters, commercial risks and general legal exposures. Manage and support litigation, arbitration and expert determinations including assisting with strategy, negotiations and settlement discussions. Deliver legal services for regulatory investigations and inquiries, ensuring the organisation is appropriately advised and represented. Oversee design and construction defect claims on major projects, providing strategic guidance and legal oversight. Support claims‑prevention initiatives and maintain awareness of business activities to proactively identify legal risks. Prepare and contribute to board and stakeholder reporting and manage external legal advisors and specialist third‑party experts. Qualifications and experience Australian Practicing certificate and between 6 and 10 years post‑qualification experience focused on disputes, claims management and regulatory investigations. Demonstrated ability to anticipate legal risks, propose early solutions and interpret complex commercial concepts with an enterprise mindset. Excellent relationship‑building, communication and negotiation skills, with the capacity to influence and manage stakeholders at all levels. Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities in high‑pressure environments.
