Design Consultant The Design Consultant is responsible for coordinating all design work and outputs for a project, including managing development of technical documentation, drawings and plans. They bring together architects, structural and services engineers, specialist designers and BIM technicians to create coordinated designs used during build and for maintenance. Key Responsibilities Overall design responsibility on a variety of Defence projects. Deliver best practice consulting services to clients, focusing on Defence projects across Australia. Manage client relationships, including key Defence infrastructure contractor relationships. Support proposal submission/preparation for Defence sector opportunities. Lead project teams and manage project budgets, quality control, and consulting assignments. Leverage team strengths across Australia to deliver efficient, practical, innovative solutions to Defence clients. Coordinate with technical specialists from other disciplines or offices, building relationships with key internal stakeholders. Participate in national and global communities within projects and Defence industry groups. About You Bachelor to Masters’ level degree in a relevant discipline. 3‑10 years of design management experience within Australia. Experience within the Australian Defence sector is essential. Eligibility to obtain Australian Defence security clearance – only Australian citizens. Competent in managing risk on projects including contractual and commercial risks. Established processes for identifying, managing and monitoring risks to project outcomes, particularly safety, management and design. Collaborative approach with ability to lead & build teams and rapport with clients, colleagues and industry leaders. Knowledge and understanding of all engineering disciplines. Experience in coordination of engineering services and architectural design. Experience in resourcing and managing a wide range of professional disciplines and subcontractors. Expertise in managing medium to large size project budgets and using financial tools successfully. Experience creating a project culture aligned to organization values yet distinct to individual projects.
