Senior Rust Engineer – High-Performance Data Infrastructure We’re partnering with an innovative Sydney-headquartered enterprise SaaS company that is building next-generation capabilities across data infrastructure, AI, and large-scale enterprise systems. With a global footprint across Australia, India, and the USA, the business develops enterprise-grade data management solutions used by large organisations in asset-intensive industries. They are currently investing heavily in the evolution of their platform, including the migration of critical high-performance systems into Rust. This is a rare opportunity to join a lean, high-impact engineering team working directly with senior technical leadership on performance-critical platform initiatives. The Opportunity The business is looking for a Senior Rust Engineer to help design and build high-performance backend infrastructure as part of a major platform evolution initiative. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex systems problems, working close to the metal, and building scalable, production-grade systems in Rust. You’ll work directly with the Head of Development & Product and CTO on systems focused around: High-throughput data processing Performance optimisation Scalable backend infrastructure Distributed and asynchronous systems AI-enabled data workflows and platform capabilities The company is particularly interested in engineers who have strong production Rust experience and enjoy operating in technically ambitious environments. What They’re Looking For Strong commercial Rust engineering experience in production environments Deep understanding of async Rust and concurrency Experience building scalable backend or systems-level software Strong understanding of performance, memory management, and efficient data handling Ability to work autonomously and solve ambiguous technical problems Experience designing robust APIs, libraries, or internal frameworks Strong communication and collaboration skills Highly Regarded Experience in any of the following would be advantageous, though not essential: High-throughput data processing systems Streaming or large-scale structured data platforms Cloud infrastructure or object storage gRPC / tonic in Rust AI-enabled systems or intelligent data platforms Java-to-Rust migration experience Collaborative, highly technical engineering culture Direct access to leadership and architectural decision-making Lean team with significant ownership and impact Fast-moving and engineering-led business Opportunity to contribute to a major platform transformation initiative Location: Sydney preferred Working Model: Hybrid – 3 days per week in the Sydney office Remote: Considered only with strong AEST timezone overlap Start Date: ASAP Interview Process: Single-stage interview with senior leadership Why This Role?
