What will you do We're seeking a Principal Maritime Engineer who is passionate about water-based structures, fostering local stakeholder relationships to enhance coastal environments. As a Principal Maritime Engineer you will lead engineering assignments and manage projects to help them meet timelines and budgets. In collaboration with colleagues, you will be open to sharing insights, be an innovative problem-solver, and your experience will be integral to the role. Key Responsibilities Core Activities The core activities of the Principal Engineer’s role are as follows: Clients – To understand who the clients are in the coastal sector, to be able to determine their needs and to then be able to identify how we service them with the solutions that they require. Project Management – To manage and direct Haskoning Australia projects, in line with Haskoning guidelines and procedures. Advice – To provide high level coastal engineering advice and solutions to our clients, in line with Haskoning quality standards, whilst ensuring high levels of client satisfaction. Market knowledge – Ensure that Haskoning Australia stays up-to-date with current developments in the coastal market and that you are also up-to-date with product knowledge in your own area of expertise and the knowledge is shared. Account management – Build and maintain a network of internal and external clients from which opportunities and projects can be acquired. Negotiations – lead contract negotiations with clients in line with project scoping, commercial and Haskoning project management guidelines, in order to generate work for self and others. As a Principal Maritime Engineer, your tasks will be as follows (but not limited to): Provide technical direction during the initiation, management and supervision of coastal/maritime engineering assignments (including construction supervision) in the context of project requirements of delivery on time and within budget, whilst achieving target utilisation. Participate in development of local technical systems and standards, and integration with the broader Haskoning knowledge base. Supervise and instruct junior or less experienced engineers and other sub-professionals (drafters) in technical works as well as assist in professional development. Undertake concept designs and detailed designs of projects such as port and harbour works, quay walls, wharves, jetties, dolphins, piles, sheet pile and other retaining or other seawalls, waterfront development, boat harbours, navaids and the like. Production of design calculations, checking and reviewing of calculations produced by others. Prepare commercial, technical and financial proposals to undertake major and minor engineering projects, generally related to coastal and maritime works such as port and harbour works, coastal protection and management measures, seawalls, and the like. Prepare work plans around undertaking such projects to plan the appropriate level of resources and scheduling to complete the works in the required time frame. Commercial and technical management of projects following the QHSE systems. Carrying out structural inspections and preparation of reports. Providing sound engineering judgement and advice. Assist where appropriate in business development (meeting potential and actual clients, writing capability statements, preparing marketing material). Prepare and or assist in commercial, technical and financial proposals. What you bring Effective technical and practical engineering skills in maritime structures Ability to consistently deliver quality, accurate and timely work Excellent verbal and writing communication skills Manage interfaces with design teams (both internal and external) Experience in leading and managing small projects and design teams Able to consistently deliver high-quality, accurate and timely work Demonstrate some client liaison, management and development Excellent organisational and self-management skills Personable, confident, team player, independent thinker Contribute to the growth of the business by identifying opportunities Provide construction assistance, including inspection of works and responding to RFI’s Able and willing to travel locally, interstate and overseas as required. Qualifications and Experience Civil or Structural Engineering Degree Background and specialisation in Maritime Structural Engineering Relevant experience gained in Maritime Engineering - 15 or more years Experience in structural engineering software such as SpaceGass, Staad.Pro, Tekla Tedds. Chartered Engineer with Engineers Australia Industry participation through PIANC and Engineers Australia Majority of project experience in Australia Experience with writing proposals, planning and delivering small to large sized projects #J-18808-Ljbffr
