In this hands‑on and fast-paced role, you will - Lead thetechnical design, engineering and continuous improvement of Westpac’s AI Services and AI Engineering capability. Champion and personallyoperatewithin anAI ‑firstsoftware development lifecycle , wherewe are accountable andset intent and guardrails, and AI helps generate, test, deploy and evidence outcomes. Establishreusable reference patterns across intent, design, build, verification,deploymentand monitoring. Codifystandards, guardrails, evidencemodelsandgovernance ‑by ‑designpatterns to ensure AI is safe,compliantand scalable. Ensure solutions meet enterprise requirements forresilience, security, privacy, Responsible AI, regulatorycomplianceand operability . Integrate AI Services seamlessly with enterprise platforms, data,channelsand delivery systems. Drive automation, observability,self-healingand cost optimisation across AI Services. Coach and uplift engineers,architectsand product teams inAI ‑poweredengineering ways of working . Be accountable fortechnical quality, architectural integrity,scalabilityand operational excellence . Importantly, this role is bothstrategic and deeplyhands ‑on —you’llset the standard and actively do the work. Highly developed people leadershipand stakeholder managementexpertiseas gained incomplex corporate enterprise settings. Advanced and deepSenior Staff or ChiefEngineer levelexperience designing and delivering complex systems acrosscloud, data, integration,APIand AI platforms . Tertiary qualifications in a relevanttechnology discipline. Deep understanding of advanced analytics, ML systems, and emergingagentic AI patterns . Stronghands‑onengineering capability acrossarchitecture, coding, testing, CI/CD, IaC, deployment,observabilityand operations . Deep experience withAI service engineering , including LLMs, RAG, agentic workflows, prompt/contextengineeringand modern data stores. Demonstrable experience embeddinggovernance,traceabilityandaudit ‑readycontrols directly into engineering workflows. A passion forcoaching, capability uplift and setting engineering standards at scale . Comfortoperatingin highly regulated environments, balancing innovation with risk,securityand compliance.
