Position Overview Position Title: Staff Specialist – Intensive Care Medicine Employment Type: Temporary, Full Time from July 2026 until November 2026 Hours per week: 1.0 FTE Position Grade: Staff Specialist Salary: As per the award. About the Department The Department of Intensive Care Medicine at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney is seeking a Specialist to join a dynamic, highly motivated team dedicated to providing state‑of‑the‑art care to both the local community and patients referred from across New South Wales and beyond. Focusing on cardio‑pulmonary transplantation, mechanical cardiac support and extracorporeal life support, we aim to become the leading specialist intensive care unit in Australia. Responsibilities Integrate seamlessly into the complex clinical duties of the role. Actively engage in governance, education and research. Lead the delivery of a newly established Critical Care Outreach Service. Participate in on‑call rotas, including critical care, extracorporeal support (e.g., ECMO) and patient retrieval. Qualifications Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM) Australia and New Zealand or equivalent. Medicare provider number. Experience managing critically ill and post‑operative patients, including cardiopulmonary transplant, mechanical cardiac assist devices and extracorporeal life support. Significant experience initiating and longitudinally managing extracorporeal life support. Experience and training in high‑fidelity simulation and its delivery in a critical care setting. Demonstrated leadership skills fostering innovation, improving quality of services and patient care outcomes. Ability to provide high‑quality, compassionate medical care and work collaboratively as a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team.
