ASIC's Strategy and Corporate Affairs Group is responsible for leading ASIC's communications and stakeholder engagement including internal, corporate and external communications (including media), as well as digital and social channels. Its purpose is to build and leverage strategic stakeholder relationships to drive engagement and protect and enhance ASIC's reputation. The External Communications team plays a central role in this work. The media unit operates in a complex and fast‑moving environment, working closely with senior leaders and subject‑matter experts across ASIC to communicate clearly on matters of public and market significance. The role As Senior Manager, External Communications, you will lead a high‑performing team responsible for ASIC's external voice. You will provide strategic counsel to senior leaders and guide media engagement that support ASIC's corporate positioning and strategic priorities. You will be accountable for: Providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior leaders on media engagement strategies, plans and messaging, including in sensitive or high‑pressure situations. Leading and developing a high‑performing media team responsible for proactive engagement and responsive issues management, while maintaining consistently high standards. Supporting the Commission, Chief Executive Officer and other senior leaders to engage effectively with media and external stakeholders through high‑quality briefing and preparation. Working closely with colleagues across Strategy and Corporate Affairs to deliver coordinated external communications, including speeches, events, corporate reporting and campaigns. Building and maintaining effective relationships with key media and internal stakeholders to support ASIC's corporate positioning and strategic priorities. Ensuring appropriate governance, coordination and evaluation of media activities, with a focus on continuous improvement. As a manager, you will create an environment that supports strong performance, professional development and sound judgement, enabling your team to operate effectively in a demanding context. About you You are a media relations leader with substantial experience operating in large complex organisations, ideally in financial services. You bring strong analytical capability, intellectual curiosity and sound judgement, combined with the interpersonal skills required to work effectively with senior leaders, technical experts and journalists. You are comfortable working at pace and managing competing priorities, and you are able to quickly understand new and complex subject matter. You build rapport easily and communicate with clarity and composure, particularly in pressured situations. To succeed in this role, you will bring: A relevant degree and significant senior experience in media relations (typically 12+ years). Demonstrated experience leading media engagement in high‑volume, high‑profile environments. Well‑established relationships with Australian journalists and media commentators, ideally across mainstream, business and financial services media. Proven issues and crisis management experience within large, complex organisations. Strong people leadership experience, including developing capability and supporting performance. Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to provide clear, pragmatic advice at senior levels.
