IT Tech Lead Senior Technical Leadership Role - Engineering Management About Wobitech Wobitech is a leading Melbourne-based software and mobile app development company, specialising in delivering custom digital solutions across industries. We combine innovation, performance, and scalability to build world‑class mobile apps, web platforms, and SaaS products for clients across Australia and globally. As we scale our engineering capabilities, we are seeking a versatile and experienced IT Tech Lead to take full ownership of our technical operations and development team. About the Role This is a senior, hands‑on leadership role for a well‑rounded technologist who can simultaneously write production‑quality code and lead a cross‑functional engineering team. You will be the go‑to technical authority across all platforms – iOS, Android, full‑stack web, DevOps, and front‑end – while driving project delivery, maintaining engineering standards, and contributing directly to the codebase. You will also act as a bridge between business stakeholders and the development team, translating product requirements into technical execution. This role suits a "player‑coach" – someone equally comfortable resolving a production incident, architecting a new microservice, reviewing developers' pull requests, and running a sprint retrospective. Key Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and manage a cross‑functional team of developers across web, mobile, and infrastructure disciplines. Contribute as a hands‑on developer, writing clean, production‑quality code across web and mobile stacks. Define and own the technical architecture, coding standards, and engineering best practices across all platforms. Conduct regular code reviews and drive continuous improvement in code quality, security, and performance. Translate business requirements and product roadmaps into actionable technical specifications and delivery plans. Collaborate with product managers and clients to scope, estimate, and deliver projects on time. Manage project timelines, resource allocation, and technical delivery across multiple concurrent workstreams. Run agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand‑ups, retrospectives, and backlog grooming. Recruit, onboard, and develop engineering talent; conduct performance reviews and career development planning. Establish and maintain CI/CD workflows, DevOps practices, and deployment pipelines. Oversee system security, scalability, performance, and reliability across all platforms and services. Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and post‑mortem processes. Communicate technical decisions, trade‑offs, and progress clearly to non‑technical stakeholders. Stay current with emerging technologies and continuously evaluate opportunities to improve the stack. Technical Skills & Experience iOS and Android development: Swift, SwiftUI, Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Coroutines Front‑end web: React.js, TypeScript, TailwindCSS, HTML5, CSS3, responsive design, and state management (Redux / Zustand / Context API). Back‑end: Node.js, Express, Python, Go (Golang), RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and WebSockets. Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis for caching and performance optimisation. DevOps and cloud: AWS, GCP, or Azure; Docker, Kubernetes, and microservices architecture. CI/CD: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or equivalent pipeline tooling. Version control: Git, branching strategies, pull request workflows, and collaborative development practices. Testing: unit, integration, and UI automation across web and mobile (XCTest, JUnit, Jest, Espresso). Familiarity with real‑time systems, WebSocket integration, offline‑first architecture, and event‑driven patterns (e.g. Kafka). Preferred & Bonus Skills Experience with real‑time features: Firebase, live data pipelines, and push notifications. Knowledge of monitoring and analytics tools such as Datadog, Sentry, Mixpanel, or GA4. Familiarity with animation libraries such as Framer Motion or Lottie. Domain experience in SaaS, transport/logistics, or high‑scale consumer applications. Exposure to accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices. Prior experience working within the logistics industry. Qualifications & Experience 8+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 3–4 years in a Tech Lead or Engineering Lead capacity. Demonstrated hands‑on coding ability across both web and mobile platforms – this is not a purely managerial role. Proven experience leading cross‑functional engineering teams of 5 or more developers. Strong portfolio of shipped products: published mobile apps and/or live web platforms. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict‑resolution skills. Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple concurrent projects. Comfortable working in and leading within Agile/Scrum environments. Must be based in Australia and able to work from our Melbourne CBD office. Why Join Wobitech? Take full technical ownership – shape the architecture, culture, and direction of a growing engineering team. Work on diverse, real‑world products across mobile, web, and SaaS – no two projects are the same. Collaborate with a passionate, global team while being based in the heart of Melbourne. Competitive salary package commensurate with experience. Opportunity to grow into a Head of Engineering or CTO‑track role as the company scales. Ready to lead from the front? If you are a technically exceptional engineer who also thrives as a leader and communicator, and you are looking for a role with genuine breadth and ownership, we would love to hear from you. #J-18808-Ljbffr
