Position Title Staff Specialist – Older People’s Mental Health Service (OPMHS) Employment Details Employment Type: Permanent Part Time (0.5 FTE) Position Grade: Staff Specialist About the Role The OPMHS delivers integrated clinical services to older people across inpatient, consultation‑liaison, outpatients, community clinics and outreach settings, including home and residential aged care facilities. This role acts as a senior clinician within a multidisciplinary team, providing psychiatric assessment and treatment, and leading initiatives that promote high standards of patient care, service improvement, innovation and evaluation. The incumbent may also work in other positions across the Mental Health and Homeless Health service on mutual agreement. Responsibilities Provide psychiatric assessment and treatment to older adults in various settings. Lead clinical practice, ensuring high-quality patient care and service improvement. Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, including lived‑experience professions. Supervise and teach specialist trainees, junior medical officers, medical students and non‑medical colleagues. Contribute to development and translation of new knowledge in an academic teaching hospital environment. Implement and evaluate innovative service models and interventions. Qualifications Specifically, specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) via the Expedited Specialist Pathway or equivalent. Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent. Certificate of Advanced Training in Psychiatry of Old Age from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) or equivalent qualification. Medicare provider number. Demonstrated expertise in psychiatry of older adults, including electroconvulsive therapy, and commitment to person‑centred, recovery‑oriented, family‑inclusive and trauma‑informed care. Experience leading and working collaboratively in interprofessional contexts. Track record of teaching, supervision, and contribution to clinical research and knowledge translation.
