Chutney Bar Inverloch is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Chef to oversee kitchen operations in our busy and well-established restaurant. Located in Inverloch, Victoria, we are recognised for delivering flavour-driven dishes inspired by Asian and contemporary cuisine, prepared using fresh, high-quality ingredients.
Operating seven days a week, Chutney Bar Inverloch offers both dine-in and takeaway services, catering to a diverse mix of local residents and tourists visiting the coastal region. Our menu features a wide range of vibrant and well-balanced dishes, and we pride ourselves on consistency, quality, and efficient service in a fast-paced yet welcoming environment.
This role presents an excellent opportunity for a qualified and passionate culinary professional with proven experience in Asian cuisine and strong kitchen leadership skills to join a dedicated team and contribute to the continued success of a popular hospitality venue in Inverloch.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and cook a wide variety of Asian cuisine, including stir-fries, soups, curries, and signature dishes, using authentic cooking techniques to deliver traditional flavours and high-quality presentation.
• Develop and enhance menu offerings inspired by Asian culinary traditions, incorporating fresh seasonal ingredients, regional influences, and balanced flavour profiles to meet customer expectations and current food trends.
• Plan menus with consideration for nutritional value, customer preferences, seasonal availability, and operational efficiency while maintaining creativity and consistency in presentation.
• Demonstrate advanced culinary techniques and provide guidance, support, and training to kitchen staff to ensure efficient food preparation and smooth kitchen operations.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate kitchen staff performance to maintain high standards of food quality, productivity, and workplace professionalism.
• Monitor portion control and ingredient usage to minimise food wastage, maintain food quality, and ensure cost-effective kitchen operations.
• Ensure all kitchen and dining areas comply with health, hygiene, and safety regulations, maintaining a clean, organised, and fully functional environment at all times.
• Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations in a fast-paced environment, ensuring meals are prepared and served efficiently while consistently meeting quality standards.
• Coordinate effectively with front-of-house and kitchen teams to ensure smooth service during busy lunch and dinner periods.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and organisation throughout all food preparation and storage areas.
• Monitor food quality during preparation and service to ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and portion sizes.
• Enforce workplace health and safety procedures, food safety standards, and hygiene regulations in accordance with industry requirements.
• Inspect food deliveries to verify quality and accuracy, and ensure all ingredients are stored correctly using appropriate temperature control and stock rotation practices.
• Estimate food and labour costs, manage stock levels, and order supplies efficiently to maintain profitability and reduce unnecessary waste.
• Deliver high levels of customer satisfaction by accommodating dietary requirements and preparing customised meals without compromising quality or presentation.
• Collaborate with management and team members to review customer feedback and continuously improve menu offerings, service quality, and operational performance.
To be successful in this role, you will be required to:
• Hold a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, Certificate IV in Kitchen Management, Diploma of Hospitality Management, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• Have one plus years of relevant experience working as a Chef in a busy and professional kitchen environment, preferably within a well-established or quality dining venue.
• Demonstrate strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor, guide, and support team members while promoting a positive, collaborative, and productive workplace culture.
• Manage restaurant administrative duties, including maintaining operational records, documentation, reporting, and other kitchen-related procedures.
• Maintain a strong understanding of restaurant compliance requirements, including food safety regulations, workplace health and safety standards, and relevant industry legislation.
