THE OPPORTUNITY Working as part of The Fred Hollows Foundation’s Public Affairs Team, this role supports The Foundation’s Indigenous Australia Program, and the Pacific region to develop and implement communications and advocacy initiatives, while building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships both internally and externally. The role supports the collection, coordination and production of stories for local and national media coverage, in partnership with the broader Communications Team, alongside the development of high-quality internal and external communications materials and publications. Working closely with the Partnerships team, the role also contributes to communications products for our key corporate and government partners to support reporting and engagement requirements. This opportunity would suit someone who brings experience working alongside communities, values authentic relationship building and is passionate about amplifying stories and initiatives that create meaningful social impact. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Storytelling & Content Development Produce high‑impact human‑interest stories showcasing the lived experiences and outcomes of our work across IP and the Pacific. Write high‑quality articles, features, opinion pieces, talking points, briefs, and media‑ready content. Capture and edit visual content (video and photography), or supervise others to ensure high‑quality outputs. Ensure content aligns with brand guidelines and organisational voice. Media Relations Proactively engage regional and national media outlets to secure strong coverage across priority markets. Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and broadcast media. Respond to media requests, prepare spokespeople, and act as a key liaison during significant announcements or events. Monitor media risks and opportunities, advising leadership accordingly. Stakeholder & Cross‑Team Collaboration Work closely with Corporate Partnerships team, the Global Philanthropy team, Programs, Markets, and the Branding team. Manage competing priorities across diverse stakeholder groups and external partners. Navigate organisational tensions with professionalism and clarity, delivering high‑quality outputs that meet both programmatic and brand expectations. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED Strong journalism or communications background with demonstrated ability to write compelling human interest stories. Videography or multimedia storytelling experience (shooting, editing, scripting, taking photos). Experience working with media outlets — ideally from a newsroom, media liaison, or PR/media advisory background. Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to produce opinion pieces, long‑form articles, and high impact narratives. Experience in First Nations contexts or working with organisations such as Black Media, Koori Mail, First Nations NGOs (or similar), preferably with strong cultural awareness and sensitivity.
