MAYDAY Recruitment is partnering with agrowing and specialist Third Party Administrator (TPA) operating within the Australian general insurance sector, who are seeking a Senior Claims Consultant. This is a rare opportunity to join a business in a true build phase, where you won’t just manage claims - you’ll help shape how the claims function is designed, structured, and scaled.You’ll work closely with leadership to deliver high-quality claims outcomes while also contributing to team development, process design, and operational strategy. Full-time permanent senior role based in Sydney (hybrid working model) Opportunity to help build a claims function from the ground up Salary ranging from $110,000 - $130,000 plus super, depending on experience High-impact role with visibility across executive leadership and client stakeholders Exposure to complex and high-value general insurance claims Genuine influence over processes, workflows, and team culture Strong focus on technical development and leadership growth Collaborative, fast-moving environment where ideas are implemented quickly Clear pathway into leadership as the team scales Main responsibilities include: Manage a portfolio of complex and high-value general insurance claims from FNOL through to resolution Assess coverage, liability and quantum in line with policy wording, legislation and delegated authority Set, monitor and review reserves across the lifecycle of claims Manage litigation, large loss and complex claims matters where required Engage and manage external providers including loss adjusters, investigators, repairers and legal partners Ensure service provider performance aligns with SLAs, quality and cost expectations Identify recovery, contribution and subrogation opportunities Make or recommend settlement decisions within authority, escalating where appropriate Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior claims staff (where applicable) Conduct file reviews and support capability uplift across the team Contribute to the design and implementation of claims frameworks, processes and authority structures Support reporting and insights on claims trends, performance and emerging risks Build strong working relationships with MGA clients, capacity providers and key stakeholders Act as an escalation point for complex, disputed or sensitive claims matters Ensure compliance with AFSL obligations, the General Insurance Code of Practice, and ASIC RG 271 requirements Manage Internal Dispute Resolution (IDR) matters and support AFCA escalations where needed Maintain high standards of documentation, file integrity and regulatory compliance Apply commercial thinking to improve claims outcomes and manage indemnity spend The ideal candidate: Strong experience in general insurance claims (typically 5–7+ years) Proven ability to manage complex or high-value claims end-to-end Experience in a senior, specialist or team leadership capacity within claims Solid understanding of Australian claims regulation (AFSL, IDR/EDR, AFCA, Code of Practice) Confident handling litigation, large loss or technically complex matters Strong stakeholder management skills, including client-facing experience Ability to influence, guide and support others in a developing team environment Commercially aware, with a focus on cost, outcomes and risk management Comfortable working in a growing business where structure and processes are evolving.
