We are proudly part of Japan Post —**About the Role** We are seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Senior Base Engineer (Deputy SBE) to support engineering leadership at our Mascot fixed-wing base. This is a critical leadership position that provides senior engineering oversight during the afternoon operational period, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of base maintenance activities. Working closely with the Senior Base Engineer (SBE), the Deputy SBE plays a hands-on role in coordinating aircraft undergoing base maintenance, managing priorities, and providing real-time technical and operational leadership. The role ensures continuity of decision-making, reduces operational risk, and supports high-tempo maintenance operations aligned with customer and regulatory expectations.**Key Responsibilities**• Provide day-to-day coordination and oversight of aircraft during base maintenance • Manage maintenance workflow priorities to ensure efficient progression of work • Support and participate in technical decision-making and defect triage • Coordinate closely with engineering teams, planning, logistics, and support functions • Ensure maintenance documentation and compliance requirements are met throughout the maintenance cycle • Provide on-the-floor engineering leadership during the afternoon operational period • Support effective handover and continuity of engineering oversight across shifts • Mentor and supervise engineers, promoting quality, safety, and regulatory compliance • Act as a senior engineering point of contact for operational and customer queries as required**About You** You are an experienced licensed aircraft maintenance engineer with a strong operational background and demonstrated leadership capability. You are confident in making technical decisions, comfortable operating in high-tempo environments, and committed to safety and compliance. • Current aircraft maintenance licence and relevant type experience • Significant experience in base maintenance operations • Proven ability to lead and coordinate engineering teams • Strong knowledge of Australian aviation regulatory requirements • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills • A proactive, solutions-focused approach to operational challenges• Play a key leadership role during the most operationally critical part of the day • Be part of a resilient and well-structured engineering leadership model • Work within a collaborative, safety-focused aviation environment • Remuneration positioned above LAME pay grades (Grade O5), reflecting leadership accountability • Monday–Friday roster with no shift penaltiesAt Toll, you can help play a vital role in delivering what matters.
